Marinades Turkish Bbq Marinade

I put together this recipe from about four or five recipes I was checking out.

1. 1 tbls Aleppo pepper - I could not find any at our markets here so I cheated and used crushed Red Thai Chili pepper.

2. 1 cup real yogurt - I don't think that there are 7-11's in Turkey so I went to one of the local Indian restaurants and begged a cup from them.

3. 2 or 3 tablespoons olive oil.

4. 2 tbls red wine vinegar

5. 2 tsp salt

6. 2 smashed tomatoes (Peel, skin and discard the seeds and pulp

7. 4 or 5 garlic cloves, minced

8. 1 cut up lemon...all of it

9. 4 or 5 chicken breasts and legs.

Mix everything up and marinate overnight.

Although it smelled ok, I did not care for it. Tasted too tart to me.


Use less vinegar and lemon next time. The tomatoes will add a tartness as well. I'd like to try more Turkish cooking but it's hard to obtain some of the key flavorings like aleppo pepper and sumac. They also like using dried mint to flavor their dishes. It's an interesting cuisine.
