There's a reason phrases like "finger-lickin' good" are associated with barbecue—yep, I'm talking about the sauce. The only problem: All those smoky flavors often come with a boatload of added sugars—think: high fructose corn syrup—artificial sweeteners, caramel coloring, and added sodium, says Michal Hertz, RD, a dietitian in New York City.

So, umm, any BBQ sauce options out there that won't give you a sugar high? "A good rule of thumb is to seek out BBQ sauces that are no more than 50 calories and 8 grams of sugar per serving," says Hertz.
