Grilled Plantains

Plantain is a fruit that is a variety of a banana. They can be prepared many ways as a dessert. They are often boiled, steamed, grilled, baked, or fried. In the United States they are often grilled. When a plantain is not ripe their color is green. When a plantain is ripe their color is black. A banana is sweet and a plaintain is tart. It contains more starch than a banana. 6 ripe plantains, peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick
1 tablespoon of olive oil
4 tablespoons of brown sugar
1 tablespoon of honey
2 tablespoons of real butter
1/2 cup of finely chopped walnuts
Salt and pepper to taste


1. Prepare the grill.
2. Brush each sliced plantain with olive oil on both sides evenly.
3. Place on the heated grill for about 2 minutes on each side. The plantain will be a caramel color after 2 minutes of grilling.
4. In a small mixing bowl, combine the butter, walnuts, brown sugar, honey, salt, and pepper. Place in the microwave for 2 minutes. Stir well until the ingredients are well combined and smooth and make sure the butter melts completely.
5. Place the plantains on a serving platter and pour the mixture over them. Serve immediately. Enjoy!
